Camper Caravans

Good for you. You have decided to add a little luxury to your next camp outing by renting or purchasing a recreational vehicle. The choices and terms may be a bit confusing. It all depends on how much luxury on wheels you are wanting.

Camper Caravans comes in all shapes and sizes, with all the amenities you can fathom down to little more than foldout beds, a few seats and maybe a table. On the other hand, many come with full kitchens, plumbing and heating, even DVR’s and TVs.   If you cruise through the  Tourist Parks, you will find a variety parked there.  How do you choose the one that is perfect for your vacation?

Let’s pick one of the more popular – the Caravan Campervans – and discuss it’s advantages and disadvantages. That way, you can have a reference point to start with and go on from there.   The terms campervan, camper or caravan can be as generic as anything on wheels that is towed behind another vehicle which provides a way to store your things as you travel and gives you a place to sleep at night, usually in a fold out fashion because space is very limited.  Even more confusing is that  the American car manufacturer Dodge has named a minivan the Caravan. That is not a true camper or recreational vehicle.

In the RV world, what is termed  Caravan Campervans is usually a rather large trailer that is towed behind a car or truck.  Even then, space can be  fairly compact.. However, it is possible to carry more stuff like camping and recreational equipment in a campervan than you could carry in a camper shell attached to the bed of a truck or in a pop-up trailer.  You also have the advantage of immediate shelter if inclement weather threatens. Caravans are definitely more durable than canvas tents or camper extenders that can collapse in the wind or puddle and leak in a cloudburst.  They can provide sheltered and safe sleeping and even cooking and playing areas for up to four to six people, if you don’t mind close quarters.

There is one huge disadvantage to renting or purchasing a towed caravan or camper instead a larger, more spacious Campervans Motorhomes as your RV. It is against the law for anyone to ride in any towed vehicle, not matter how spacious. In a Motorhome, since it is all attached as one vehicle, people can stretch out and sleep, relax and watch videos, etc. Except for the driver, of course.

Another disadvantage is that you need a strong vehicle to tow camper caravans. A standard truck or mini van  fitted with a hitch can do the trick, but you need to check the specifics of you owner’s manual.  If all you own is a compact car, you are looking at two purchases.

The biggest advantage is the price for renting space to park your camper caravans and vehicle in a park  or campground is much less than paying for the night in a hotel. Besides, you get to meet other campers, share stories and learn more tips about vacationing in a recreational vehicle. Instead of  leaving a hotel, getting in the car and driving to great scenic destinations, you can wake up in one.

If you want to experience the great outdoors, but also want to carry more stuff, have the option to sleep undercover and off the ground,  or take advantage of the amenities offered at tourist parks and RV camps, a camper may be a great option. On the other hand, if outdoor camping is not your forte,  opting for a larger  caravan  or even a Motorhome with plumbing, kitchen, TV and even heating and A/C may be more your thing. It really is a personal choice.

Here at Campervans Motorhomes, our main desire is to get you into the one that will make you the happiest. You may opt to rent Camper Caravans for a mini-vacation or weekend get-away and see if it meets your needs. If it doesn’t, you will know it is time to consider purchasing a Motorhome. Or you may decide you really are the hotel type after all. Our bet is once the camping bug bites and you experience the freedom of a Campervan, no matter what size, you won’t be satisfied with the limitations of a hotel or motel again.
